For better or worse, diapers have been an obsession for me for as long as I can remember. In fact, my first conscious memory is about diapers and dates from when I was probably around 18 months old (this would have been in 1983). It is only a very brief episode and mostly about sensory memories, and from what I have read, such very vivid, brief episodes can actually escape what is called infantile amnesia (the fact that most of us have no memories from before 2.5-3 years of age) and imprint strongly on your memory. In this memory, I am in my crib, wearing only a white Pampers, so it is probably just after a change and before being dressed in a fresh onesie. I stroke the silky, shiny plastic surface and this is connected to a feeling of complete happiness.
